Creating a Basics Capsule

September 12, 2018admin

When building a capsule wardrobe, it’s important to have key foundation pieces. These are pieces that will work for almost all seasons and will be easily interchangeable with seasonal trends.

After 3 years of creating capsule wardrobes on a seasonal basis, I came to find that many of my basic pieces transferred from season to season. This gave me an idea! Why not create a Basics capsule and then just add in a few trendy or seasonal pieces to spice up my wardrobe each season, instead of creating new capsules from scratch! Brilliant idea, I think! So, here is what I’ve come up with. My current Basics Capsule. These items do have a few seasonal type pieces (such as coats and sweaters), but I’ve found that even in the summer, I reach for a sweater once in a while.

Keeping the basics neutral allows me to add pops of color and pattern each season to enhance my closet.

It’s important to own good quality basics! Why, you ask? These are items that will get the most wear by far. Spending a bit more on a good quality tee or pair of jeans, ensures that they won’t wear out in a year and continue to be a favorite for years to come. Would you prefer to purchase a $10 tee that will have to be replaced in a year, every year? Or would you rather spend $25-30 on a tee that will last 4-5 years?

Here is what I’m wearing: (I’ll provide links to the items I’ve purchased or similar pieces if they are no longer available)
